It's a hammock gear loft.
It's a chair.
It's a swing.
It's a bulletproof vest.
It's whatever you want it to be, except a bulletproof vest.
It may be small, but this versatile little 8oz warrior wears a lot of hats and incredibly still holds up to 400lbs of you or your gear*.
* If you've got 400lbs of gear, you're doing it wrong
We began showing off the VersaTrek at trade shows and the response was amazing. One thing was clear right away, we had designed a product that would live up to its name - it seemed like everyone we showed it to found a different reason to love it.
Parents loved it as a mini hammock for their little ones, hunters and anglers loved it as a quick-setup chair, and hammock campers everywhere rejoiced. The days of cuddling up next to your backpack or hanging it in a tree while hammock camping are over - the VersaTrek is here.
Hammock Gear Loft: When setup over or under your hammock you've got a perfect place to store your pack, clip your water bottle, headlamp, etc. and keep all your gear within easy reach. When setup underneath our V9 Strong Tarp, you'll sleep soundly knowing your gear is dry and off the ground. We've also heard they make great toy and stuffed animal lofts at home, but you can say it's for your 'gear' and we'll take your word for it.
Hammock Chair/Swing: While we think hammocks are great for sleeping in, there are a lot of times when you just need to get off the ground and sit comfortably. The VersaTrek is lighter and stronger than any camping chair and gets you off the ground comfortably. Cook your food at the campsite, take a break while hunting, or just swing your troubles away on the front porch. The VersaTrek can be hung from a single overhead branch/post (just make sure it's strong enough to support your weight!).
Mini Hammock: The VersaTrek can be used as a standard lie-down hammock but with a comfort zone between 2.5ft - 3ft tall at most, it isn't going to fit the big kids. However, if you've got little ones the VersaTrek can be a great way to introduce them to the joys of a hammock when they're young. Our No-Flip Design™ means you can rest easy, but please remember you should never leave children or infants unattended or unsupervised when in a hammock. This product is not designed, sold or tested as a 'baby hammock'.
And More And More... Ever since we began testing the product we've heard countless creative ways it's been put to use:
You've used it as a bear pouch while camping (hoisting food up into a tree), as a drag-anchor when boating or kayaking, even as a sling/tourniquet in a backcountry injury.
Go ahead and surprise us, how do you use your VersaTrek?
Best In Class Materials:
Designed For Safety:
For every hammock sold, including the VersaTrek, we work with Trees For The Future to plant two trees in your honor.
Why is that so powerful? By helping small farmers and villages around the world with the planting of fruit & vegetable trees, shade trees and more, together we're going beyond basic environmental change. Your simple purchase creates a chain reaction that will feed the hungry, create small business, and generate a huge amount of social good and happiness. You get an amazing hammock and create a legacy of change.
Always test your hanging points for stability and never set up your hammock at a height where a fall or malfunction could cause injury to you, or in any way that could injure the people around you.
Equipment, even brand new equipment, can fail. Trees or structures that appear sturdy are not always what they seem. Be smart and always think about your safety first.
We realize that our customer base consists of responsible and knowledgeable outdoor lovers capable of maintaining a safe environment even in situations that appear dangerous to the outside eye. If you choose to disregard our safety recommendations and hang your hammock from anything above a safe height (3′ or higher), you should always have a safety backup plan in case of failure – a harness, safety ropes, etc. that would protect you from any injury.
When used properly and on trees with healthy, strong bark, your hammock suspension should not cause any damage to the tree. However, not all trees are created equal and some trees have a soft bark layer which can be damaged if you're not careful when you hang your hammock.
Killing a tree so you can enjoy a nap isn't a fair trade in our book. If you have any reason to think the tree you're hanging from could be damaged from your hammock use you should always add a layer of padding underneath your hammock ropes or hang elsewhere. Items like a towel or piece of clothing can be used to pad and protect trees while you're on the trail.
We always recommend getting out of your hammock and checking things out after a few minutes of use to make sure you're not causing any damage to the tree. It's up to you to be smart about your impact - leave no trace!!
I slung my Versatrek between two doors in my apt as soon as I opened the package. I'm a little top heavy and 263lbs 6'2", so the Versatrek didn't work so well as a chair (I topple out of the back side). But let me tell you, when I laid in it there wasn't a single cry, creak, or groan form it at all. The fit and finish proves that the Versatrek is built as a hammock that can also stow your gear when on the trail. I love my Versatrek, Thank you Trek Light Gear!
Addition to hammock hanging. Keeps gear off of the ground and close by.
This thing is awesome. I'm a big guy, so unfortunately, it's kinda small as a hammock chair (which is why I bought it), but it works great for my daughters. It will be good as a gear loft, too.
Even though I use an ultra light tent, I take the gear versatrek gear loft on long distance hikes, because 1, it's super light when you replace the hardware with whoopie slings, 2 It's a great hammock chair so you can get off your feet after putting in the long miles, and 3 I'm very physicaly fit but I'm a big guy at 260 pounds but this thing holds me no problem, despite the small size. I highly recommend this over those "ultra light" camp chairs that weigh a whole pound or more. My hammock chair with whoopies is more like 7oz or less. Wish I would have ordered camo color though.
