Hammock Set Up Instructions
|

The instructions below show you how to use our Go Anywhere Rope Kit. But when it comes to hanging a hammock you'll likely have many more questions such as how high to set your ropes on the tree (or how high to place your eye bolts indoors) and how far apart the points should be.
To answer all these questions and more we've created a handy guide available on our blog - How To Hang Your Hammock: The Only Guide You'll Ever Need!
Using The Go Anywhere Rope KitSetting up a Trek Light Hammock is simple and easy! You have a few options for how you can set up your hammock based on your needs. On this page we've broken those options down into two categories: Portable and Permanent (for the porch, patio or indoor setups).
Hanging your hammock between two trees couldn't be simpler with a Trek Light Hammock and the Go Anywhere Rope Kit (Note: The Go Anywhere Rope Kit is also included as part of our Rope and Carabiner Bundle). If you choose not to purchase our kit you will have to use your own system for hanging the hammock or assemble your own rope to replicate our "Go Anywhere" design.
Trek Light Hammocks literally setup in just seconds and are 100% adjustable so you can quickly and easily increase or decrease the curve of the hammock or accomodate trees that are varying distances apart.

When you find the place to hang your hammock, you just need to take one of the nylon cords from the kit and sling it around the tree, pole, or whatever you're hanging the hammock from.

Holding one end of the Go Anywhere cord in each hand, just pull the knotted end through the looped end.

|

Continue pulling the knotted end towards you until the loop locks it into place on the tree. Position the rope around the tree so the cord is pulling against itself in the direction you wish to hang the hammock. If dealing with a skinny tree or post you can wrap around a second time to lock the rope in place but this step is usually not necessary.

You may have been wondering why there are multiple knots in the Go Anywhere cord. Now, you'll understand why. Just take the s-hook at one end of the hammock and hook into the closest knot to the tree. (The pictures to the right are shown with our optional carabiners installed instead of the S-Hook, but the idea is exactly the same.)
Repeat the procedure for the other side, hooking into whichever pre-tied knot (or make one of your own) will give you the proper tension and distance you need to hang the hammock.
The only knot you shouldn't hook into is the the included 'end knot' at the very end of the rope. This knot simply keeps the rope doubled up on itself and isn't intended as an attachment point since it's the only knot that can come undone (because it's at the very end of the rope).
Regardless of how close or far apart the trees are you can just hook into a different knot and you'll always have the perfect hang!

Because the hammock is equipped with s-hooks on either end, setting up a Trek Light Hammock on your porch, patio, indoors, or to any beam or post is easy to do with the right tools and knowledge. We recommend picking up eye bolts (see example image below) from any hardware store and installing them as required. Make sure you buy the appropriate size and strength to hold the necessary weight and bolts that won't pull out of the beam or post too easily (speak with the staff at your hardware store). Just hook the s-hook or Trek Light Carabiner into the eye bolt and you're ready to go!
IMPORTANT!If installing indoors or onto any structure, the bolt must be installed into a wall stud, ceiling joist or support beam strong enough to hold support your weight (and then some). Every house frame and build can be a bit different (even some wall studs are not strong enough to support a hammock) so it's absolutely necessary that you do your homework and speak with a building professional if you're at all unsure.
Trek Light Gear is not responsible for any damage or injury caused as a result of your hammock setup - we love you so do it right and do it smart! |

The most important part is to be creative and you'll find spots everywhere to hang your hammock. Anything the s-hook or carabiner can hook into that can support your weight safely is fair game, use your imagination! If you've got pictures of yourself hanging a Trek Light Hammock in an interesting way, send it to us in an e-mail and we'll consider posting it in our Gallery.
