One tree planted, 1-for-1

Every item sold plants one tree through our 1-for-1 Giveback. Next time you walk past a forest, you can say with confidence: “Yeah, I helped with that.”

Customers praised this shield for excellent bug protection, with reviewers noting "no mosquitoes got through" and 360-degree coverage. Setup is "easy" and "a snap," though some mentioned the ridgeline cord is too short for wide tree spacing. A few found it heavy or bulky for backpacking. The zipper works well, and customers appreciate peace of mind sleeping outdoors without bug bites.

Easy and perfect

This is the perfect addition to a hammock set up! It’s super easy to set up just slide the hammock through tighten the ends and the clip onto a line and voila! The bugs can’t get you. The only thing I ran into was that the line it came with to clip to could have been longer. It was only just long enough to secure to some knots on the first trees I used and not long enough at all the second location (fortunately I always have some paracord in my pack so it was no problem to clip onto that. These trees were pretty far apart, probably about as far as you could go comfortably so in theory it’s long enough for general use, but I would definitely bring along some paracord or something else longer just in case your trees are wide)

Not today bugs!

I *knew* I would love this and I am so glad that I purchased it. I love that it's 360 protection from bugs. Not even those bold mosquitoes that try to bite through the hammock fabric are going to get ya with this bad boy!

Glad to hear the net is working so well. Hammock on!

Great net, ridge line cord too short

The net was easy to set up and worked great to keep bugs out. Easy to get in and out of! But I had to Macgyver the ridgeline cord because it didn’t even come close to wrapping around 1 tree and reaching the other side. Fortunately my tree happened to have a nail that I could secure 1 side to.

Thanks for sharing your experience Susan. If you run into that situation again, you can always attach the bug net ridgeline to your hammock suspension (ropes/straps) instead of having to go around the tree. If we can ever help with anything just let us know, and happy hammocking!

Excellent customer service

I have great faith in the bug net although I have not had a chance to use it yet. What was exceptional was the correspondence that accompanied the product. The individual notes were a very nice touch.

Thanks so much, Larry! We're always here to make you smile. :) Enjoy your bug net!

I love the bug shield.

I love the bug shield. Only needed it in the morning and evening on my camp out, so during the day I used it as a super comfy pillow. =)

It works. It's fairly heavy

It works. It's fairly heavy and bulky as it wraps the whole hammock and seems to have more netting than is needed. I replaced the integrated ridge line with 550 cord as it seemed flimsy. I changed the clips for the ridge line to small metal carabiners too as the plastic clips look like they will fail easily. The end slipped over the hammock one night and up allowing mosquitoes in - making sure it extends beyond the hammock should minimize that risk. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and slept comfortably.

The hammock is big and

The hammock is big and roomy, and doesn't make me feel the least bit claustrophobic. The white can be difficult to see clearly out of, but you will definitely see any skeeters that managed to get inside with you.

This bug sheild goes up

This bug sheild goes up with ease and adds only seconds of time setting up camp. The weight is a minimal consideration when backpacking. The peace of mind knowing you won't have any buzzing and crawling friends around more than make up for carrying another item, which is only the size of a double hammock. This addition is essential for anyone who wants to enjoy nature during the warm seasons.

Easy set up.

Although Bug Free Hammock Shield is heavier than other bug nets I was looking at (Kammock Dragonfly) it is composed of a much sturdier material. I live in Michigan and when camping on the lake you need to know your net is going to hold up to the mosquitoes and especially black flies, I have confidence in this guy. Bug net is easy to set up, very logical and the black version is amazing a blending into the forest. Surprisingly, the zipper stays relatively snag free and is easy to use from the inside. Well thought out design.

The bug net fits my

The bug net fits my double hammock great. No bugs to check it out with yet as its winter. I wish trek light sold winter items too. I am taking both hammock and bug shield with me to the Philippines. It will get quite a workout there. I hope trek light will let me post my results later this summer when I return. Just from my experience so far with it. It is so much easier to get in and out of then the bug nets with the vertical zipper. As I have back problems. Until then keep hanging in there. ;-)

... my camping trip and I find it to be good in size

I don't own this but my friend does and he allowed me to use it when I went on my camping trip and I find it to be good in size, it kept the bugs out , easily clean and store away.. Prize to me was a bit high for this, but in all it did what it was suppose to do, stop the bugs from getting at me lol

This item is AMAZING! Works perfect to keep out bugs at all times, because who likes relaxing and enjoying the beautiful day and then all the sudden getting attacked by a swarm of gnats or mosquitoes? That is right, NO ONE! So go ahead and get your self a hammock shield for your hammock!! you will NOT regret it!!

My buddy has one of these and has let me use it. I recommend a darker color as white can be a bit more of an eye sore. Overall good quality just could have better options for colors.

Keeps the bugs off

This bug net works great with my Trek Light hammock. It's somewhat fiddly to get setup properly, and more difficult if you're using an underquillt, but it gets the job done. It would be nice if it had a better system to clip to a ridge line though.

"Hammock Heaven"

I've now taken the Bug Shield on a backpacking trip and a river trip and both times it had me singing the praises of Trek Light Gear! It's easy to setup and does exactly what it should - keeps the bugs out without taking away from my relaxing experience in the hammock. And believe me on river trip the bugs were BAD. No-see-ums, mosquitoes, you name it and through it all I was one happy hammocker! Highly recommended!!

Just like it's called!

Packs down to the about the same size as the double hammock. I got it for a youth trip for our church I was helping lead, thinking we were perhaps going to Waldo Lake (Oregon), which at the time could perhaps rival Minnesota for mosquitoes. However, because nobody else would have been as prepared as me, we ended up going to Timothy Lake - still great, and I still didn't have to worry about the bugs - from above or below (because we all know that if a mosquito can get you through blue jeans, then you should know it will get you through the bottom side of a hammock). And once your flashlight is off, if you don't have a tarp/rain fly over you, you will hardly know its there looking up at the stars.

Does exactly what you want it to do

This thing works great. It takes very little effort to hang it. It is light weight. The combination of this, a double hammock, and treklights tarp makes the perfect shelter.
